Fini Bearman

We welcome to the Friday Jazz Club the new singer on the block, touring with her band to showcase the release of her new album ‘Burn The Boat’.  Fini Bearman is a London based singer, songwriter and composer.  Her music melds influences as diverse as jazz, folk and contemporary music into an arresting and uniquely personal sound.  Sometimes dealing with settings of poetry or pre-existing texts, and other times with original lyrics or open, wordless evocations, this music is honest yet witty, mixing lush harmony and orchestration with contemporary grooves.

Alex Hutton – Magna Carta

Alex Hutton – Magna Carta

27 January 2017 19:45

An original concept, with original music and the most original players in the UK today.  2015 was the 800-year anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta that this set is dedicated to.  Alex takes inspiration from the countryside around his daily dog walking duties. The history of England surrounding the Wraysbury and Runnymede area runs deep in the English psyche.  The ancient woodland of Ankerwycke shelters a 2000-year-old Yew tree.  Some  2300 years ago looking up at the branches under which Roman soldiers would have gathered (perhaps to discuss the building of aqueducts) - the first thing you think is ‘if the tree could talk - what stories it must have…’

Nigel Price Organ Trio + Jack Kinsella Trio

Nigel Price Organ Trio + Jack Kinsella Trio

3 December 2016 19:45

This Trio has released four albums, completed five UK tours, and played hundreds of concerts since they formed in 2000 including ten residencies at Ronnie Scott’s. This really is one of the great touring bands in recent history and the music has always gone down a storm! They play a modern take on the organ trio, often with original compositions formed around older song forms. The music is fast moving, exciting and we’re not ashamed of our driving swing. The Trio picked up the award for “best jazz ensemble” in the APPJAG (Parliamentary Jazz) awards in 2010 and I placed third in the category for “Best guitarist” in the British Jazz Awards in 2014 and 2015.
