The Ray Butcher / Huw Warren Trio
Local fans know Ray's trumpet style well and will welcome him in this collaboration with Welsh pianist and composer Huw Warren and drummer Miles Levin. This trio is a new but relatively well travelled band having played Barmouth Jazz Club and the Aber Jazz Festival, Fishguard, last summer. Expect some standards and originals from both Ray and Huw.
Ray Butcher, trumpet, is well known to Birmingham audiences and has appeared on Channel 4 comedy shows with his Quartet ('The Morgana Show' and 'Very Important People'). Ray recently played a trumpet solo on the song 'God's Great Dance Floor' for Chris Tomlin's US album topping CD 'Burning Lights', receiving a Grammy nomination.
Huw Warren is a renowned Welsh pianist and composer. Recent collaborations with international musicians such as Mark Feldman, Maria Pia de Vito, The trio Quercus, with saxophonist Ian Ballamy and June Tabor, which is a major creative milestone for Warren and in 2013, the trio released a live album on ECM. He is best known for the major name quartet Perfect Houseplants. Warren has performed and recorded with many of the UK's finest jazz musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, Loose Tubes, Steve Arguelles, Julian Arguelles, Billy Jenkins, John Parricelli, John Etheridge, Christine Tobin, Tim Garland, Scott Stroman, Antonio Forcione, and Brian Abrahams' District Six.
Drummer Miles Levin, trained at London's Guildhall School of Music, is well known in both London and Birmingham, having recently played with Steve Melling at London's 606 club, a gig that he does regularly.
