From Scratch

The first of two live performances commissioned by Birmingham Jazz just for this Festival.   'From Scratch' will be drawing on a number of Joe Harriott songs, transcribing, arranging and specially rehearsing them for this gig.  The band will use Harriott's recordings, such as "Hum Dono" with Amancio D'Silva, as an axis point for the twin front line of sax and guitar.  In addition they will explore Joe Hariott's later free style playing; Harriot was noted for mixing Charlie Parker with his native Jamaican mento and calypso rhythms - expect From Scratch to represent these same fusions.
