Brandon Allen Quartet
1000 Trades 16 Frederick Street Jewellery Quarter B1 3HE
£12.50/£10 Members/Students £5
This is Brandon Allen's exciting jazz quartet project playing the music of saxophonist Gene Ammons. Ammons was one of the founders of the Chicago style of tenor saxophone playing and was a contemporary of such tenor-playing luminaries Dexter Gordon, Wardell Gray, and Sonny Stitt. He forged a lasting partnership with Stitt, recording some classic tenor battles in the 1950s. This project has been very well received at concerts throughout the UK and Australia
The project focuses on music spanning Gene Ammons' entire career, from the late 40's right through to the mid 70's. The quartet has played together for several years and has recently recorded an album, now in its final stages before its release.
Brandon is currently touring throughout Europe, USA and Asia with the Kyle Eastwood Band, regularly hosting the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scotts, leading his quartets and Sextet and working as a sideman with various artists/bands.
Brandon Allen tenor saxophone, Ross Stanley piano/keyboards and Hammond organ, Arnie Somogyi acoustic and electric bass, Matt Home drums
