Eddie Henderson, continues to be one of the most original trumpet players in jazz today. At 79 years old he remains very much at the height of his musical prowess, and continues to produce music on a par with the greatest trumpet players in the history of jazz. Eddie’s mother was a dancer at The Cotton Club, and his father was a doctor. He grew up in a household where some of the most important and colourful figures in jazz were regular visitors.

It was Miles Davis who convinced Eddie to become a professional jazz musician and after gigs with Davis and John Handy, Eddie joined the legendary Herbie Hancock Sextet (who also recorded as the Mwandishi Band) in 1968 where he first attained international recognition. Since then he has attained worldwide renown as a prolific performer and recording artist, working with huge array of the greatest names in jazz, including Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Max Roach, Jackie McClean, Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes, Joe Henderson and many more.

He is joined for this gig by a creative and potent quartet made up of long time collaborators; Arnie Somogyi on bass, Stephen Keogh on drums, and the brilliant Welsh pianist Gareth Williams. ‘A prodigiously talented pianist… a joyous, uncompromising celebration of sophistication, musicality, muscularity, it’s shockingly good’. Mojo Magazine.

Eddie Henderson last appeared in Birmingham in April 2018, where he sold out the Eastside Jazz Club.
