James Romaine & Mentor Gareth Lockrane
‘Heartlands’
The James Romaine quartet features some of Birmingham’s finest young jazz musicians. Having played together on numerous occasions in varying line-ups, James sought to establish this ensemble in pursuit of his compositional voice, drawing inspiration from sounds that evoke certain emotions and memories throughout his life; childhood, growing up through church, mental health, and his roots in both East London and South Lincolnshire. ‘Heartlands’ is a suite of compositions which take the audience through these moments, with the music providing an overarching narrative.
The quartet will be joined by acclaimed jazz flautist, composer and bandleader, Gareth Lockrane, who has been mentoring James in the process of composition, as part of the Jazz Central Mentoring scheme.
“MEMORABLE!”, “A 5-star performance.” – Lance Liddle, bebop spoken here.
