Jazz Connections: Everyday Lives Exhibition

This exhibition features a selection of photographs from three collaborative research projects which brought together jazz scholar Dr Pedro Cravinho & photographer Brian Homer. Included are photographs and quotes from musicians involved in the Birmingham jazz and improvised music scenes. The combination of photographs and interview quotes provides distinct insights into how active members of the local jazz scene view themselves and the scene, and how they negotiate their lives while developing their professional, musical and other careers.

One of the included projects was called Capturing Jazz Lives and was co-organised with Birmingham Jazz with funding from the Arts Council.

The exhibition is in the Library of Birmingham Foyer, Centenary Square, Birmingham B1 2ND. June 6th - August 28th 2025

Launch June 6th 2025

There is an open invitation to the launch June 6th 1.30pm - 4pm. At the launch there will be an introduction, a short presentation and discussion and then there a set  from a jazz duo led by Sam Slater. 

The launch has been arranged so you can go on to the free 5pm performance by the RBC Jazz and Salsa Orchestra at B:Music and then at 8pm Birmingham Jazz at 1000 Trades to the gig by the Magpie Trio.
